We ran our listing to 6-2 in the playoffs this season with another win last night in the late game. For you East Coast people that might not have stayed up late enough to see that the end, the Houston Astros took a 2-0 series lead over the Tampa Bay Rays, driven by a dominant performance by Gerrit Cole. But it was a very tightly contested match along with the Rays was able to make a match of it since they scored in the inning, also left the bases loaded, before dropping 3-1.
We had been on the below seven and a half runs, as both pitching staffs brought their A games, and our bet was never in jeopardy. Cole had among those better postseason begins in recent memory since he threw seven and also two-thirds of the inning of shutout ball. It turned out to be a hard-luck loss for the Rays, as they return to Tampa Bay for game three on Monday as they trail two matches to no one in this series.
Could they be in a position to strike Cole or Verlander coming into this show, the question for Tampa Bay has been. And that has been answered with a resounding no, as both experts have pitched a combined two and two-thirds of an inning and havent allowed one run. Waiting at Tampa Bay for them is another Cy Young Award winner at Zack Greinke, although tampa will seem to salvage at least one match of this series in the home. Will anyone be able to slow down this Houston juggernaut of starting pitching? For the selection of today, Well check in on the show involving the Washington Nationals as well as the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Washington Nationals host the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight in game of the National League Divisional Series. The Nationals have used an pitching team so far in this seasons playoffs, because theyve used Stephen Strasburg and starters Max Scherzer both from the bullpen. As their bullpen is an absolute mess washington is made to lean on their strong start turning. Theyre expected to perform something since the world shocked this morning by announcing theyd start Anibal Sanchez, rather than Scherzer, if needed, which Scherzer and Strasburg both would likely be available from the bullpen.
For the Dodgers, they will need to find a way to take advantage of this starting pitching matchup today, because theyve lost home-field benefit, and will have to find a way to win in Washington if they want to bring the show back to LA and give themselves a shot to progress.
Beginning for the Dodgers is Hyun-jin Ryu (14-5 2.32 ERA), and for the Nationals its Anibal Sanchez (11-8 3.85 ERA). The game is set at nine runs. The Dodgers have been -139 street favorites. First pitch is scheduled for 4:45 PM PST in Nationals Park in Washington DC.
Wow. What a decision the Nationals have made now to begin Anibal Sanchez over Max Scherzer in game three. To me, this seems as though they are going to basically tank this sport in hopes of Strasburg in game five or stealing game at home, then using a rested Scherzer. And to tell the truth, it is not a strategy that is bad. I think they are not frightened of having to do it once the confidence was attained by the Nationals by winning LA in game two. So, instead of attempting to chain on no break, along Strasburg or even Scherzer, they have decided to break them and setup for games four and five. I enjoy it.
Like Sanchez is awful and its not. The guy had a good season for Washington, but many people, myself included, did not believe hed be starting a game within this series as Washingtons rotation is together with the likes of Scherzer, Strasburg, and Corbin. Sanchez was solid down the stretch because he pitched seven innings in three of his last four starts, and the Nats won his final three starts of the season. And against the Dodgers he posted strong results too, because his ERA was only 3.18 in two starts against LA..
The Dodgers will counter Hyun-jin Ryu tonight on the road. Before falling apart in August, ryu looked like a lock for your NL CY Young Award. Before the All-Star fracture, Ryu was 10-2 with a league-leading ERA of simply 1.73. But in August, he fought as he went 1-3 with a 7.48 ERA in four starts. But in September, Ryu was able to get his act back together because he finished up the year on a top note, since he went 2-0 with a 2.13 ERA in four September starts. The three of which saw him toss seven innings in each start and he let a total of three runs.
As I mentioned above, I think that the Nats are currently setting up this one for games four and five. Thats not to say they are not likely to play hard at home, and they could pull off the upset, but to me , they are currently playing the long game. And that makes them very difficult to back. The Dodgers understand they must win this game, or the series is over. If they have to handle some blend of Corbin, Scherzer, and Strasburg either out or starting of the bullpen and move down two games to one, they are in plenty of trouble.
That means LA will pull out each the stops tonight. I believe Ryu is great, and they will yank him fast otherwise. And I think Sanchez will be adequate. However, if everything is said and done, the Dodgers are going to find a way to win this game and take back the show guide, and that is apparently okay with Washington. Give exactly the Los Angeles Dodgers as road favorites tonight in game three from Washington DC to me!
